![]() ![]() No matter how well you do before this event you are set to pretty much the same status. Rather than the normally expected hit to the Hope stat and a rise of Discontent, your Hope is reduced to near zero, even if it was maxed out before, and your Discontent skyrockets. He appears on day 15, and delivers the news of the fall of Winterhome to your settlement. Sick people and no hope…Ī major issue I have early with the campaign is the messenger from Winterhome, another settlement in the story that has failed. I would appreciate having an opportunity to recover from such a failure instead of it just cascading out of control and having to reload a save or start a completely new game. All you can do is build medical tents and try to treat people as quickly as possible. As far as I can tell, there is no possible way to get either better housing or a generator upgrade that early since it comes just eight days into the campaign. I had a quarter of my citizens get sick that first night, and it proved impossible to recover. The initial tent housing you have access to gives your citizens virtually no protection from the cold, and your generator cannot keep the temperature high enough. I thought one of my first times trying to move through the main campaign was going well until the first temperature drop. However I’ve found that people get sick extraordinarily easily, often well before it’s even possible to mitigate the causes by increasing the heat output of your generator or building better housing. Sick people cannot work so your resource income will be reduced. One of the first symptoms that things are going wrong is your people start getting sick. ![]() Often, when things start going south, it is difficult if not impossible to recover. There are a few features of the game that I find a little aggressive. Failing in either can cause riots that disrupt work, or can result in a game over if ignored for too long. You have to keep the Hope stat of your colony high, while minimizing Discontent. Maintaining resource flows with a very limited population and unforgiving environment gives the game a real feeling of accomplishment when you succeed, and when you fail it can be excruciating. I am reminded heavily of Banished, a 2014 game by Shining Rock Software, in style of play and relentless management needed to keep your colony alive. I’ve restarted at least five times now because I’ve gotten everyone killed or they abandon my colony so it is a very difficult game by my standards. So full disclosure, I am not very good at this game. You face the task of building the last city on Earth and securing the means necessary for your community to survive.“ In an entirely frozen world, people develop steam-powered technology to oppose the overwhelming cold. “Frostpunk, the newest title from the creators of This War of Mine, is a society survival game where heat means life and every decision comes at a price. ![]()
